Today's the day we leave Daegu. I'm currently in the process of procrastinating (I learned to do that from Lucas). He's sleeping off the goodbye/Luc's birthday we had last night. I'm thinking about getting the pot and pan, and banging them together to wake him up, becuase there is only so much time left. Do you think he would be angry?
Last night we had our goodbye party, and had a lot of fun. You can't go wrong with Sam Gyeop Sal (Korean BBQ) for dinner, then Billibow (remember that mom?) and TBird's (fooseball tables) and then some Noraebang (Karaoke). I had one drink all night, and Lucas....well, he turned 24...
So now, we need to clear the apartment in a couple hours so we can catch our train to Busan. We leave for Vietnam in the morning at 10. I think this trip is going to be quite interesting, I hope we get to see everything that we want.
I'm happy to leave, I'm ready to leave. It's been great, but I want to see my own country, even if it will be freezing and snowy. I have to go shopping as my clothes are reeeeeallllllly tight and ugly and literally have holes in them. Same with Luc's. It's a little difficult to find clothes for someone my size here in Korea as the largest size in stores in a 30 if you're lucky (even in the western chains). I always wonder where the bigger Koreans get their clothes.
So I will see everyone in less than one month! Shanny, Alex...I have a countdown going too~!

...and so...as they say...all good things must come to an end...As you say good bye to Korea, so do we…for now anyway. Thank You Luc and Erin for allowing us all to live vicariously through you and for the opportunity to experience this beautiful country; its histories and its peoples. You will always have the memories, the friendships and the connections to the rest of the world that you made there. I know the children and their families lives will be forever changed because of the time you spent teaching them. Ahead for you now is the road not yet taken…though it may be kind of a daunting thought, know your family and friends can’t wait for you to be home....and the path you will follow next, will become clearer to you. I’ve heard it said “When you don’t know what to do ….get still…the answers will come”. On your return you will have time to heed that advice.
We feel blessed you have remained safe and were embraced by the wonderful people of Korea…. “like the moon and the sun, we are all in the same sky”. Many pleasant memories are brought back to us and were learned whilst you conscientiously continued to document and record your feelings, thoughts and adventures, so Thank you for the time and effort that took. You didn’t seem so far away when were able to connect through the Blog, phone and Internet.
I am not sure if we would have ever visited Korea had it not been for you…so Thank you for enriching our lives, it was a wonderful experience. My favorite memories of Korea continue to be the modest and kind people, though I loved the thousands of years of history and appreciate they had the foresight to preserve and interpret the past and their many dynasties. It helped me realize the importance of preserving the past and carefully preserving the cultural heritage…if there were no past, there would be no future. I have heard it said, “You have to see where you come from, before you know where you are going”… now I get it.
It has been our benefit that the new aged Korea has embraced and recognized the need for their peoples to learn English and it has been our privilege to share you wonderful young adults with them. But know, we will all be very happy and humbled to have you back home. Now it’s our turn once again to have you in our day to day lives…for how long, we do not know…but for however long that may be, we are truly Thankful.
As you trek on to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand we wish you a safe journey and send you this Gaelic Blessing “May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
Love and Hugs, As Always, Mom ( Ma B)
